Cinema Classic Series: Bicycle Thieves
Italy, 1948. 89 min
Dir: Vittorio De Sica
Free and open to the public.
Film and Video Studies is excited to present a new screening series in collaboration with its course FAVS 225 - History of World Cinema. The Cinema Classic Series is a rare opportunity to see classic film on the big screen!
In post-WWII Rome, Antonio (Lamberto Maggiorani) finds his bike is stolen on the first day of a much needed new job. He explores the streets of working-class Rome with his young son, Burno (Enzo Staiola) in a desperate attempt to track down the thief. Filmed in the streets with a largely non-professional cast, Bicycle Thieves has come to epitomize Italian Neorealism in cinema masterpiece that the New York Times called "brilliant and devastating."
