HIRE A FILM AND VIDEO STUDIES INTERN

If you are an organization or company interested in working with Film students, please contact Film at Mason's Program Director, Cynthia Fuchs to inquire further about developing a partnership with our program.

Mason's location in the midst of a thriving film industry and our professional faculty's network of connections provide Film at Mason students access to a large pool of internships.

Apply your classroom learning to real-world work environments. Internships give you an opportunity to reflect on work done in the field and gain experience to propel you into your career beyond college.

Required Internship

The Film and Video Studies major requires an internship for academic credit (FAVS 450) during your junior/senior year. We encourage you to take advantage of other internship and work opportunities before your junior year to be competitive, but those will not count toward this course requirement.

The Department of Labor’s Fair Labor Standards Act stipulates that internships must meet certain criteria:

  • The internship, even though it includes actual operation of the facilities of the employer, is similar to training which would be given in an educational environment.
  • The internship experience is for the benefit of the intern.
  • The intern does not displace regular employees, but instead works under close supervision of existing staff.
  • The company which provides the training derives no immediate advantage from the activities of the intern and, on occasion, its operations may actually be impeded.
  • The intern is not automatically entitled to a job at the conclusion of the internship.
